What I Have Learned

One hope that I have when thinking about working with children and families is to expose them to all of the wonderful diversity that is in our world.  I would hope to help the children and their families develop a deeper understanding of differences and to have an acceptance for all people.

One goal I would like to set for the early childhood field related to diversity, equity, and social justice would be to provide early childhood educators with opportunities to continue their education about these topics.  I have realized that through this course, I still have a great deal to learn about myself as well as how to address issues related to diversity, equity and social justice.  Continuing conversations as well as the learning of early childhood educators would be extremely beneficial to the field.

I would like to thank all of my colleagues and Dr. Klein for their support and guidance through this course.  I appreciate all of the personal stories that were told, they truly helped deepen my understanding of the topics we studied.  Best of luck in your future courses and work in the early childhood field.

  1. Ashli,
It has been a pleasure virtually meeting, growing and learning with you. It is also my hope that families develop a mature understanding of appreciating and recognizing differences. I thank you for sharing your insight and thoughts and I wish you the best of luck!!!!

  2. Hi Ashli,

I loved the illustration you chose. What a great representation of diversity through something as beautiful and strong as a tree. I agree and relate to your hopes and goals. I have learned so much about myself and the field of anti-bias education. I believe I have just scratched the surface. There is so much more to learn and begin to implement into my classroom. This will be a life-long process. Thank you so much for all you have shared! Best wishes and many blessings for your future endeavors! Cindy Rube

  3. Hi Ashli,
I agree that we need to expose our students to diversity and the differences each person has in order for them to develop a deeper understanding thus helping them to become more accepting of others.

I also agree with your goal of providing teachers with more courses and/or training in diversity. As early childhood professionals we need to stay up to date on current trends as well as new concepts or ideas so that we can educate our students to the best of our abilities. Staying current in anti-bias education is a great way to see anti-bias education incorporated more readily into classrooms.

Thank you for helping me grow as a teacher throughout this course. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors!

  4. You are correct there is much diversity in this word. We often overlook the diversity in our communities. There is much diversity within each of us that can be appreciated.

I agree Dr. Klein along with our peers have been a lot of help.
